Leatt is constantly expanding its accessory line and the latest addition is this 10-litre DBX Cargo trail pack. It’s at the top end when it comes to price, but it has a ton of features, including built-in back protection.

To increase breathability, the DBX Cargo has an Airline back panel and underneath that is a separate pocket containing the removable spine protector. This is made from a smart material that forms to your shape but then stiffens on impact. Delve deeper and there’s an interior pocket with heat-resistant lining – it’s designed to keep the water in your reservoir cool. Next to that is another pocket for a second reservoir, and stuffed in the front is a handy plastic phone sleeve and a tool roll.

The DBX Cargo is built round a unique chest harness, which features several mesh pockets, attachments for a Go-Pro, a whistle and dual bite-valve mounts. In fact, the drinks hose can route out the pack in four different ways – under or over both arms. The chest harness is shaped, but without a waist strap we found most of the weight was on our shoulders and it also caused the bottom of the pack to fishtail around when riding. Externally, the DBX Cargo gets a large stuff pocket and several bungee cords for attaching a full- face and body armour, but with three litres of fluid on board, a full array of tools and spares and the heavy protector, it becomes a hefty load to lug about on all-day rides. We also really struggled getting the bite valve to work consistently.

In terms of features, the DBX Cargo has everything bar the kitchen sink, but it’s not the most stable of packs and that protector really does ramp up the cost.
