The Red Bull Foxhunt was open to more riders than ever this year and, as over 350 competitors took to the Rostrevor slopes, Gee Atherton must have been licking his fangs in anticipation, it was all the more scalps for him to claim on the way down.

Gee absolutely excelled himself this year and despite the tight and technical nature of the course he was still able to out-fox 335 riders to finish 32nd. Unlike his sister though, who passed riders with a smile and encouragement, Gee was in all out attack mode and even took out some other riders as he sailed past them.

The two time World Champion finished with a time of 9:11.39, about two minutes behind the race winner Colin Ross. Ross won in a sprint finish and claimed the victory by just 0.14 seconds over second placed James MacFerran. The highest placed woman was Michelle Muldoon (no relation) with a time of 13:15:36. The Foxhunt caps off a pretty successful season for Atherton as he finished sixth in the World Cup overall with three podium finishes. Hopefully the off-season will give him plenty of time to prepare for next year’s World Cups and emulate the success of his sister.
