Bluegrass has ticked a lot of boxes with this rugged, deep coverage lid. A sophisticated shell construction adds additional impact security, and the gel-padded headband keeps the lid rock-solid and is effective at steering sweat away from your eyes.

There’s a clip for your goggle strap at the back and space under the peak to stash them on the limbs. It’s not the lightest, but the extra grams aren’t noticeable and the fit is superb.

Neat details include the small gap between the padded interior and the outer shell that does a great job in aiding cooling and airflow, and the vented Kevlar straps are particularly lightweight and unobtrusive.

One concern might be the looks — a few people commented on the strange shape — and there is plenty of unprotected polystyrene around the rim that’s prone to potential damage over time too. However, neither stops the Golden Eyes being one of the most stable, comfy and well-vented helmets on test.
