If trail popularity is any gauge, Swiss brand iXS has done well with the Trail RS because we see a lot of these out there. One of the big draws could be the extremely comfortable fit. The Trail RS shares the cosiest padding of any trail helmet alongside the Troy Lee A1 and is well cushioned. The padded chinstrap also feels great next to the skin, although it’s way too long and the excess flaps around.

With 22 ports, there’s a massive amount of ventilation. IXS also uses a very effective internal layout, meaning your head only connects with skinny strips of dense, absorbent padding, which helps reduce heat build-up and encourages more air flow. Three narrow intakes in the front of the EPS shell also channel more air over your scalp.

The Trails RS sits very low down at the brow — subsequently the visor is constantly in your line of vision. With more size options, and a way to keep the peak out of view, we’d score this competitively priced helmet even higher.
