Pretty unique bit of kit

Red Bull helmets are highly coveted in the extreme sports world, you can’t buy them and only the top pros ever really getting a sniff at them if they get sponsored by the energy drink giants.

However, thanks to the #irideforPaul auction, which was set up to aid the recovery of Paul Basagotia who injured himself at Rampage, you have the chance to bid for one and become a walking billboard yourself.

The helmet is a piss-pot style helmet that was worn by Aaron Chase until he crashed it in 2014. It’s worth us saying that this helmet was de-comissioned after the crash so we would not recommend you actually use it in anger, but it’s still a nice piece of memorabilia to own. You’ll probably have to dig deep though as it currently stands at $380 with five days left of bidding still to come.

Also in the auction are a number of signed jerseys and helmets as worn by some of freeride’s top riders including Cam Zink, Remy Metailler and Kurt Sorge.

Paul Basagotia crashed on his first run after hitting what has been described as “the record for biggest step down”. He came off his bike at speed at was thrown over a small cliff. Paul had to be airlifted from the Rampage site and was taken straight to hospital.

The live feed of the event calimed that he had suffered a minor leg injury but it was later found that he had in fact broken the T12 vertebrate in his back, leading to a nine hour emergency surgery procedure. The incident has prompted a backlash on social media, most notably from Cam Zink who finished sixth in the competition.

All proceeds from the auction go to the Paul Basagotia recovery fund that has already raised $56,000.
