Deep central channels force a huge amount of air through the helmet. Unfortunately, this is only across the top of the head, as the internal venting on the sides cannot compete. While they are not any hotter than with other helmets, the difference in ventilation in the two zones is noticeable, and disconcerting.
As a polar opposite to the long and thin Specialized, the Trek helmet is very round in shape. In fact, one tester with a 57cm noggin felt the front and back sat hard against the head, despite the helmet being designed to fit up to a 60cm skull. For round heads this will be one of few helmets that fit well.
The Ziptite II retention is fixed at the centre of the lid, supported by two temple anchor straps. This secure three-point fixing is a lot smaller than others and therefore holds less heat on the rear of the head.
