We know the Deus XC is a durable stem because we’ve fitted it to quite a few trail bikes over the last year. True it’s not lightweight but the forged construction is strong, the shot-peened finish increases surface hardness and the ovalised extension tube offers a good amount of stiffness. The interlocking faceplate doesn’t quite interlock into the stem and the opposing bolts are really just for show, but we’ve had no problems running this stem with carbon steerers or bars. We’d like to see better finishing on this stem for the money, especially the bolts, which have a few rust spots after a few rides in the recent wet weather. That said it’s available in a good range of lengths and has an extended warranty.
