Giro has been a bit slow in producing a hardcore trail helmet, but it finally has one in the form of the Montaro.
We’re big fans of Giro here at mbr, in fact the Giro Feature won the best value crown in our recent best mountain bike helmets test. It scored an eight because we loved the look and fit, however we felt that a lack of venting let it down.
It seems that Giro has addressed this head on with the Montaro. Using tech from its XC helmets, Giro has peppered the helmet with vents as well as fitting a Roc Loc air lift system that channels air over your scalp. Added to this are 10 anti-microbial pads that should effectively soak up any sweat.
One feature we really like on this helmet is the goggle integration. Although it might not be the most fashionable look in the world, goggles and an open face helmet can be a winning combination.
The adjustable visor on the Montaro should allow you to store your goggle away on the climbs and then the strap securer at the back is designed to stop them slipping down as you shred
The Montaro, and its female counterpart the Montara, will be available in October 2015 and will cost £129, roughly the same as a Troy Lee Designs A1.
