Glasgow will host the Commonwealth Games in 2014, it was announced on November 9. There was fierce rivalry between the Scottish city and the Nigerian capital of Abuja, but Glasgow scored 47 votes to 24.
This is the first time Scotland has held the Games since 1986 and we’d like to think mountain biking can take at least some of the credit for getting Glasgow the green light: the World Champs hosted in Fort William this year were such a success, the Scots would have been hard to ignore. Glasgow has also done well in our Top 10 cities to live and ride feature, starting on page 82 of this issue.
