Routes amongst the high Malvern Hills aren’t the easiest to follow via the basic markings of a Landranger, as there’s a multitude of junctions and other merging intersections. So if you haven’t already bagged some advice from Back on Track before the start of the ride, pay very close attention to whatever scaled extract or Sat Nav combo you’re utilising. The aim is to climb gradually to the summit of North Hill. Climbing through the woodland and scrub you’ll find yourself winding your way out on to the grassy hillside before reaching the 400 metre ridgeline. Progressing south along the ridge another 30 metres ascending and Worcestershire Beacon is your chance to survey the surrounding lowlands from the highest point. Doubling back to drop to the road, it’s south again to Wyche Cutting and on to the next sliver of ridge line, tackling Jubilee and Black Hill. From here you can either extend things on to Herefordshire Beacon before doubling back north to Wyche cutting and progressing along the west side of Worcestershire Beacon. Losing height once again, the final struggle is interrupted by St Ann’s Well café stop before pushing on back to North Hill. The final plummet takes a path, rocky in parts between disused quarries and back to North Quarry car park.
