Want something to do with your long summer evenings? You can't go far wrong with the Beastway XC race series

The Hackney GT Beastway XC race series will return to Redbridge Cycle Centre this summer and this year it will be run as a national points series.

The races will start on 20 May at 18:30 and will run every Wednesday until 8 July. The hour-long races are cheap and enjoyable, but those who wish to race harder can earn prizes, and, this year, national ranking points.

Hundreds of riders turned out last year and the attendance is expected to be even greater this year. Russ Jones, the Beastway promoter, said: “We’ve had nothing but positive feedback from riders last year and are really pleased to be back at the Redbridge Cycling Centre. The venue have been so helpful and allowed us to create fun fast courses”

A Beastway race is a great way to spend a summer evening.

The Beastway has taken place every summer since 1993 making it one of the longest running mountain bike race series in the world. It initially started in Stratford but relocated to Redbridge as the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park development forced it to move.

Volunteers are needed to help mark out the course and lap counting so nothing too taxing. All helpers will be treated to food and beer post race. If your club is able to help, please email Russ Jones
