Mont-Sainte-Anne played host to a double header this weekend. As the downhill riders were recovering from their Sunday morning, post-race hangovers, the cross-country races were well underway.

It was the fourth round of the season and after the scorching weather in Lenzerheide, you would expect the riders to be glad of some Canadian drizzle. However, the rain turned the rocky course into an ice-rink and many riders suffered as a result.

It made for some exciting racing though and our report and video are below:

Women’s cross country Monte Sainte Anne

After an unexpected dip of form in Lenzerheide, 22-year-old Yolanda Neff underlined why she is the hottest talent in cross-country mountain biking at the moment with her third win of the season.

Seemingly with a point to prove, Neff broke off from the pack early. She demonstrated her unparalleled bike control skills by being the only woman to tackle the fearsome La Béatrice descent. By the end of the first lap, she had a lead of over 30 seconds and at no point did she even look threatened by other riders.

Second place was secured by local hero and Canadian champion, Catherine Pendrel. Third place went to another Canadian, Emily Batty, who attacked late on her Trek ProCaliber hardtail.

Neff now has a lead of over 100 points at the top of the general classification. Norwegian legend, Gunn-Rita Dahle lies second on 790 and just behind her is Catherine Pendrel with 670.
