For the past four years, Marcelo Gutierrez has been the undisputed king of the Manizales urban downhill race and with good reason, it’s held in the town where he was born!

Guiterrez is a downhill racer who finished eighth in the World Cup overall standings last year with podium finishes at Fort William and Mont Sainte Anne (he must like the longer tracks). In this video you can see his winning run which crushed the competition by four seconds, not bad on a sub-two minute course.

The track winds through the narrow streets, down staircases and over some sizable man-made jumps. To make it even more tricky there’s a rabid crowd of fans lining the streets shouting encouragement as he daggers past them.

Marcelo Gutierrez will return to downhill action next year for the Giant Factory Racing team. The season starts in Lourdes in April.
