A mountain bike mad 16 year old has been killed in a car crash while riding his bike.

Keiran McKandie, from Elgin, Scotland, was cycling along the B9010 Kellas to Dallas road at about 10.50am on Sunday when he was hit by a Volkswagen Golf.

His parents have described how he “lived, breathed, slept and dreamt downhill mountain biking” and that he spent all his spare hours on his bike. They said: “Even while he was eating his breakfast, he would be searching for biking videos on the internet. He loved all his biking buddies and shredding the tracks, and he was at his happiest when he was biking.”

Keiran was an only child and a pupil at Elgin Academy. He reportedly  had many friends in the biking community and had been planning a holiday with eight of them during the Easter break.

His parents added: “As a family we would like to thank the emergency services and all that attended and tried their very best to save him. We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to them at this horrific time.”

Inquiries into the incident are still ongoing and police have asked anybody with any information about the incident to come forward. The driver of the Volkswagen Golf was shocked but uninjured.

Our thoughts are with Keiran’s family at this difficult time.
