Finn Iles went from mountain biking zero to hero seemingly overnight when he won the 2014 Whip Off World Championships at Crankworx Whistler. Since then he has gone on to become part of the Gravity Republic race team and star in the biggest bike film of 2015, UnReal.

This video shows his meteoric rise to the top and includes perspectives from his mother and father.

At the age of 14, Finn was officially too young to compete in the Whip Off World Championships but pressure from the local riding community and the use of the #LetFinnin hashtag meant that the organisers decided to let him compete. Finn shocked everyone by taking the win and hasn’t looked back since.

He said: “I wanted to win it, of course, but I mainly wanted to ride with the guys that were in it, that was mainly why I wanted to do it.”

Unfortunately Finn was not able to defend his title in 2015 as he was out with an injury, but he was able to become an honorary judge and decided Andreu Lacondeguy should be crowned in his place.

Finn was brought up in Whistler but don’t let that detract from his sublime skills and the mature head he has on his 15 year-old shoulders. He’s sure to be one to watch as he steps up to become a  Junior on the World Cup circuit in the near future.
