Like Fox and Axiom, Decathlon uses a non-branded bladder in the Rockrider 8.0. While it shares the same bite valve mechanism, it has a roll top — Velcro secured — closure similar to the Hydrapak. In addition to the roll top, it has two zip lock-style additional closures: a true belt and braces approach.
Effectively a direct distributor (there’s no middle men), Decathlon always offers top value. As well as the biggest bladder on test and two external mesh pockets (including a mini-pump securing bungee), an expandable main compartment features a mesh divider to keep everything in place. The ‘lid’ for the main pocket includes a mesh compartment. Closed with a popper, it may not be the most secure, but it’s ideal for stashing a waterproof post shower. This makes up for the lack of big bungee storage.
Contoured straps keep everything snug, assisted by an elasticated sternum strap and waist belt. A neat rotating hose clip adorns the fixings for the sternum strap, keeping the tube ready for hydration. Buckles and webbing may not be of the highest quality but, at this price, nothing comes anywhere close in terms of features.
