For most of us, a serious spine injury caused by a motorbike crash would probably mean the end of our riding days. Phil Hall thinks differently though.

He was determined that his accident wouldn’t stop him getting out on the trails and decided to build his own four wheeled mountain bike.

Here you can see him hitting up the La Pleney downhill trail in Morzine and showing off enough skills to put a lot of two wheeled mountain bikers to shame. While British trails tend to be relatively narrow, bike park trails are much wider and more open making them much more suitable for the four wheeled bikes that these riders use.

Phil Hall is the secretary of the Rough Riderz, a club that is hoping to make mountain biking more accessible for all abilities. It runs taster days to introduce as many people as possible to the sport.

At the end of last year, the Launchpad trail was opened as the UK’s first trail designed specifically for four-wheeled bikes and now the disabled mountain biking community has a figurehead in Martyn Ashton who is using e-bikes to get himself back on the trails. All of this seems to suggest that the future is bright for disabled mountain bikers in the UK.
