Steve Peat comes from a different age of mountain biking. When he was in his prime, the riders didn’t know what training zones or suspension telemetry were and the after-parties were just as important as the racing itself.

This is an attitude that the Santa Cruz Syndicate is trying to keep alive and, as its patriarch, Peaty is leading the way. In the latest episode of The Syndicate he takes on the challenge of downing 4.5 bottles of Duvel in four and a half minutes.

Duvel is a Belgian beer that comes in 330ml bottles meaning Peaty drank roughly 1.5 litres (3 pints). Considering that Duvel is also 8.5 per cent proof and comes with a thick head, this is a heroic effort (although he doesn’t quite keep it all in).

To make it even better Rob Warner is commentating along as if it was a real World Championship run.

Also in this episode of the syndicate you can see Greg Minnaar and Josh Bryceland‘s contrasting preparation for the World Championships at Vallnord. Although Greg’s focus on minuscule details is completely at odds with Josh’s relaxed outlook, they finished second and third respectively so it must work.

The Santa Cruz Syndicate should go into next year’s World Cup series as a re-united trio now Peaty is back from his ACL injury. We already can’t wait to see behind the scenes of his full time return to racing in the next episode.
