The Steve Worland Ride Singletrack Hard and Drink a Swig of Cider Memorial Cup returned to the Bristol Bikefest for the second year in honour of the highly respected cycling journalist.

The Bristol Bikefest is an annual cross-country competition that was run for the fourteenth time this year. The Steve Worland Cup was added last year to run alongside the three, six and 12-hour endurance events.

The event ran on the same course as the other events and was scheduled to finish at the same time as the 12-hour event. There was a difference however; half way round each lap each rider had to raise a toast of cider to Worland before continuing with the race.

The event is run at the Ashton Court trail centre where Worland suffered his fatal heart attack in March 2014 while out for a run.

The Steve Worland Cup ran alongside the 12 hour race and had 28 competing teams and individuals. Team Chain Gang Gang who completed 17 laps, roughly 170km, won the race.

Proceeds from the race will go to a charity of Worland’s family’s choosing and it will remain an annual tradition.
