Cairns in Australia last hosted the World Cup in 2014 and after a year’s hiatus it’s back for 2016. It may be three months until the race hits the jungle track but Troy Brosnan has put out a video preview to whet our appetites.

In 2014 the race was run in monsoon season and the track looked more like trenches in the Somme than a venue for some high level downhill racing. However, on Troy’s return there he found a fast, dry track and he duly shreds it.

The track looks like a totally different beast in this condition. From switchbacks that are more sinuous than the snakes in the trackside undergrowth to the 270° bridge corner and the massive whoops where a spectator famously crashed Adam Brayton’s bike, it looks like a load of fun.

2014’s race saw an Atherton double, including a last minute change to flat pedals for Gee that left him begging spectators for a pair of FiveTens. However with Troy finishing last season as one of the fastest racers and the raw speed he seems to be carrying in this video, could we see a home victor this year.

The Cairns race will be run on April 23-24, it’s the second race of the season that kicks off in Lourdes on April 9-10.
