The Sarn Helen mtb route is a massive multi-day venture requiring a capable rider and a capable mountain bike. The route begins at the top end of Wales at Conwy and finishes 260 miles and several days later, at Worm’s Head on the Gower Peninsula. Unlike a lot of other long-distance end-to-end routes, it doesn’t avoid the rough stuff or high altitudes. The full route is a serious undertaking that requires a high level of endurance and fitness. Happily, there are perfectly viable ways of just doing sections of it, as many as you feel up for really. We’ve got full GPS files for the complete route that we’ve broken down into eight sections.

Pick out a couple of them and, with a bit of transport logistics, plan a full-on epic Wales Weekender.
