Leaving Dorking’s mainline station, don’t be put off by the kilometre or so of cyclepath along the busy A24 as this soon makes way for a flinty rise up Box Hill. This kicks off the first of two distinct halves to this varied Killer. Linking woodland traverses with stony byway, sandy RUP and crafted singletrack, there’s something for everyone within this testing killer.
Cutting a path north across Mickleham Common, the route veers west, back across the A24, before shaping south to Ranmore Common and the chalk plummet of White Downs, which pushes on across the A25 to Holmbury Hill’s sandy forestation. Climbing to Holmbury’s summit, energy willing, the ‘Barry Knows Best’ singletrack descent is just west of here and drops to Peaslake Stores for sustenance.
Otherwise it’s east on the Greensand Way to the ride’s highest point of Leith Hill, then on to Coldharbour and the constructed delights of Redlands Trails’ Summer Lightening. Heading north to Westcott from here and a short stint east brings you back to Dorking.
