Gore-Tex liner/Split leather-closed mesh upper/Shimano performance sole/Neoprene ankle cuff/Twin Velcro strap closure system/Sizes 36-48/Weight 994g (size 44)
With the tight-fitting Neoprene ankle sock the Shimano boot isn’t as easy to slide your foot into as the Northwave. Once your foot’s in, the two Velcro straps are quick and easy to use and make it considerably easier to remove the boot at the end. Comfort-wise, the Northwave and Shimano boots are pretty evenly matched but we found that the closure system on the Shimano boot holds your foot more securely. The only thing that’s lacking here are toe studs — cyclocross riders swear by them and if running up climbs is a big part of your winter riding then go with the Northwaves.
