Before we look at the technology tied up in the Nike Mountain 101 shoes, we should point out that Nike is finally using a new last — the end result being that the MT101s have a wider and taller toebox than any previous Nike mountain bike shoe we’ve tested.
Redesigned from the ground up, the Nike 101s have fully replaceable tread lugs, so, as they wear out or the conditions change, you can replace or customise the tread. The shoes come as standard with medium compound lugs, but Nike also offers hard and soft compounds. Replacement lugs cost £19.99 per set and include everything that’s screwed onto the base of the shoes.
Up top, Nike has used an injection-moulded one-piece heel cup and main strap with an easy to use ratchet fastener. Two Velcro straps add additional security and overall the fit they offer is excellent.
The Nike Mountain 101 is a lightweight, super-stiff mtb shoe that is packed with technology, and is the first carbon-fibre soled mountain bike shoe with top-level comfort to match.
