This isn’t the lightest or the stiffest stem on test but it’s extremely well made and super durable. Shot-peened and 3D forged from lightweight Easton alloy, the 70 has a 38mm diameter extension tube, with steel inserts for the faceplate bolts and two bolts on the steerer clamp joined by an 8-shaped washer and threaded to a similar shaped anchor bolt, which interlocks into the reverse side. This hardware and all the stainless steel fasteners are replaceable, making this stem one you could use and abuse.
Like the EA90 Easton could do with offering the EA70 in smaller sizes (a new version is on the drawing board and should come in a 80mm length) but it’s available in both clamp diameters and is better value for money. Definitely a stem we’d fit to a trail bike.
