More details emerge

More details are emerging of the tragic and sudden death of Kelly McGarry yesterday.

Due to the nature of his riding, fans have speculated that an unfortunate crash may have caused his death however multiple sources are claiming he was in fact riding uphill as he collapsed.

Stuff.nz reports that Fraser Gordon of the Queenstown Mountainbike Club said: “We understand he was riding uphill and suffered cardiac arrest. He is an extreme mountain biker so everyone is presuming he fell but that is incorrect.”

Jimmy Carling, the President of the same club, told RadioNZ: “He was just riding up towards one of the peaks on Fernhill Loop and that was it, he was gone. I like to think he didn’t suffer. He was out on his bike, on top of a mountain, and even though it was far too soon, I think it’s how every mountainbiker would like to go.”

McGarry, 33, was reportedly shooting some photos and videos for YT Industries when the incident occurred. YT yesterday announced its overwhelming sadness at the news by saying, “We are petrified, shocked and heartbroken about losing one of our family members. Kelly was a warm-hearted, friendly and relaxed guy. He stood for the true essence of mountain biking through every aspect of his life.”
