A dissection of whip perfection with Finn Iles

Finn Iles burst on to the mountain bike scene last year at Crankworx when he became the unlikely winner of the Whip Off World Championships at just 14-years-old.

It was unlikely for two reasons – firstly because he was technically too young to enter the competition and secondly because he was only allowed to enter it in the first place due to a social media campaign that utilised the hashtag #LetFinnIn.

Since then he has gone from strength to strength. He has now got a sponsorship deal with Lapierre and holds down the position of full-time course sweeper for the UCI downhill World Cup rounds.

This video sees him compete in the Crankworx Les 2 Alpes Whip Off World Championships. It features some glorious slow-mo and a crowd eager to see some sideways soaring.

Although he was just beaten out by Bernado Cruz, we think this is still pretty close to a perfect whip, and with many years ahead of him, there is no doubt he will pick up another whip-off crown at some point again in the future.

No bad for a 15-year-old

Crankworx Les 2 Alpes continues for the rest of this week with a dual speed and style, a downhill race, a pump track race and a freestyle competition.

This year’s event is also running an informal France vs the World competition to see if French riders can overcome their international competitors on home soil. Cruz’s victory means that the World team have taken an early lead.
