The rides start from Dorking in Surrey, less than 25 miles from central London, meaning urbanites working long hours have no excuse to miss out on winter riding.

The Surrey Hills hide some of the best riding in the South of England, a veritable warren of trails, making organised rides pretty useful.

The Ride It! events take place between October 29 and December 6 and follow on from daylight rides (3-4pm). The daytime off-road ride the routes run south through wooded hilly terrain to Leith Hill passing Friday Street towards Broadmoor. Riders then speed down to the base of Leith Hill via Coldharbour Common before beginning the first real ascent of the day.

The trails then head north to tackle a climb up and onto Ranmore Common. What goes up obviously has to come down and throughout the day riders are rewarded with good views and great descents.

Adult entry costs a tenner, children go free. Tickets at www.evanscycles.com/rideit.
