does anyone else have any problems getting their bike on home insurance? mine say they will only cover me for £500.00. is this the norm? am i getting shafted? or are there specific companys that can insure to a decent amount? £2.5 - 3k?

Interestingly, we're just about to put together a feature on this very topic. Was hoping some of you guys could help us out and tell us about your experiences: who you insure with and why; if you've ever had a bike stolen and what the outcome was; why you take out insurance.
Post em here if you have any ideas.
NorthernD, M&S used to do some of the best insurance that included bikes as part of home contents. Also check out British Cycling, CTC, Dogtags, E&L... and wait for my feature in the August issue of course!

im currently with AIG which seem to be pretty good on contents insurance.
never had a bike stolen, but dont fancy my bike not being insured just in case!

I insure my bikes through the household insurance attached to the mortgage with the Woolwich, Barclays taken it over now I think.
I tried getting a quote from a specific bike insurance company for comparison purposes but they wanted more for 1 push bike than BMW Motrad want for my 2 motorbikes and they're fully comp!
Gore and i use tesco through the house insurance. The max they will cover you for is £1000 per bike and its covered when your out and about to.

I currently have mine as a sepcific item with Halifax and it is insured both at home and away from the home basically anywhere providing it is locked up. I keep it in a lock up garage and it is valued at £2500 for £50.25 per year as part of my home and contents policy.Which i think is extremely reasonable it also covers accidental damage as long as it is not used for racing which it isn't as its a Kona Dawg supreme so a bit on the heavy side for that plus i'm nowhere near fit enough or interested in that side of biking...

Cheers Mate, got it in the sale at evans for £1750 i love it as it feels bomb proof but like i say not the lightest but i feel confident i could go anywhere on it which is the main thing...
