The plastic tab has or should have a pin in it that locates into a hole in the shaft, to stop the crank falling off, but how this is ment to do this if the bolts are loose is beyond me!![]()

The screwy thingy that my erstwhile colleague is referring to is called the crank arm fixing bolt, the catch locates the crank arm in the right position but isn't designed to keep anything in place.
