    Re: Mount Snowdon

Im climbing the three peaks in October for charadeeee - Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike then Snowdon.

Climbed the Miners track up Snowdon a few weeks back and I could have done most of the downhills on my Whyte ht so seriously tempted to take the bike and do the three........
    Everyone thinks im mad too!!!

Just go and do Snowdon, it doesnt look that hard, maybe do the Rangers route to make life easier? Or go up on the train and ride down if you wanna cheat!

Dont leave it too long tho cos even a mad person wouldnt do it in the snow...............!

    Re: Mount Snowdon

I've ridden it a couple of times.

The first time I rode it on a Scott Comp Evo 2 (Hard tail, with 80mm travel manitou axel forks)That was in January and the top was all ice. It was mental, but awesome! It was harder coming down it than riding up it on The Scott!

I rode it last year too on a Stumpjumper FSR Elite. Which was fantastic. I stuck some High Roller 2.35 super tackys on it, and the bike was more than adequate. The ironic thing was I got down all the really narly stuff and crashed on a bit of a grass bank about half a KM from the bottom!

The only thing I would say is, wear some leg and arm armour at the least. Some of the rocks are big, and come sharp.

If you're thinking about riding it, do it.....its really not that hard but really rewarding.(as long as you're fit and can ride well)

    Re: Mount Snowdon

Also worth bearing in mind voluntary restriction on bikes and hoss between May and Sept, did it at the end of april - up Llanberis path and down the rangers, love it!

Proper mountain biking - 2hrs ride and push up, 30 mins down including two puncture stops, damn those 2.1 tyres!

We so no right to roam in this country so we can ride every decent hillock in the land
well at the end of the day... the sun goes down

    Re: Mount Snowdon

The descent down the side of the railway (the name of the path escapes me!) is definately definately "black"

Parts of it are seriously loose, and steep, other parts are really really quick, and some of it is like one massive rock garden.....but with proper Welsh mountain elephant head sized rocks!

When I did it on the stumpy I bent my chainset on the way down, and had to replace the lot.......I'd recommend a bash guard.

But.....if you like the black stuff......it is rather good fun!
