    Gym Training?

    Hi All,

Currently I train in the gym 3 or 4 times a week (When it doesn't bloody snow!).

I mostly do weight-training and some cardio for general fitness.

What do you guys do in the way of training/gym training to get fitter/stronger/faster on your bike? apart from riding of course..

    Regards,

I do a Spinning session most weeks, and also at least one session in the gym on X-trainer, rowing and a few weights.
If I do go on the treadmill it is either 30 minute major inclined walks or short runs

Ah cool, how long have you been doing spinning sessions for? have you noticed any positive improvement on your riding yet as a result? I have been considering trying out a spinning class at my gym for months but haven't got round to it yet

    Re: Gym Training?

Been attending spinning sessions over the last three years or so, and whilst I have missed a few weeks, I have maintained some consistency.
They have certainly improved my aerobic capacity and fitness although I went spinning prior to really becoming more serious about my cycling.
If you get a good instructor and also use the tension on the bike, 45 minutes spinning can be hell (try a double session for real hell).
Depending on your own fitness, it can take four or five weeks to really get into the spinning without any aches the following few days

I do spin sessions as well. I find it usefull in that the roadie who takes the class gives lots of pointers about getting the most power out of your downstroke. Good for building muscle while standing up in the saddle.

I also do the jym. My workout is as follows:

20 min XC program on bike.
    20 minutes running
    1500 m rowing.
    3 x 12 on push up machine
    3 x 12 chest machine
    3 x 12 leg curl push machine
    3 x 12 leg curl pull machine
20 minutes impulse workout on bike.

I also do a couple of sessions on the bike (2 1/2 hrs local routes) and one club run (same length of time, but with different locations).

In addition to this I will cycle to work 3 x per week (16 miles total).

    Luck
Sometimes I swear I can hear the Norns laughing

Rides - SCUD Misile (Seldom cleaned used dialy)
AKA a Giant XTC 4 with some mods.

Raleigh Royal 10 speed (Use occasionally as it has a rack)

    Giant Anthem X2

Note: Impulse work out means 20 minutes total with 3 minutes at hard resistance, 3 minutes at soft, then hard, then soft.

Total weekly miles to and from work = 48.

    Re: Gym Training?

i ride to work and back (40 miles) then when i get in i get showered then run to the gym (12 miles) i do a 3 hour gym session involving everything from cardio excersise to muscle building.

half way through the 12 mile run home i pop into the boxing club for a half hour spar session.

once home i get showered then hit the turbo trainer for 2 hours before warming down with 200 sit ups, 200 press ups and 200 pull ups.

then its a power shake and bed before doing it all over again.
