Hayes HFX9 Brake Wear

Looking for answers out there....

I have had my Kona KK 2006 since August. In that time i have replaced the brakes pads as follows

Rear - changed the ones supplied with the bike at the end of Nov (with Goodridge sintered)and then again today (with Goodridge sintered)

Front - changed the ones supplied with the bike today (with Goodridge sintered)

What is wrong with my bike? why am i going through so many pads? I ride once a week normally 25 miles. All the pads are fitted correctly. The cost is killing me! I my have to go back to Vs

They will be fitted correctly. It doesn't seem overly fast wear but you are certainly using the back brake too much and need to try and use the front more. If you are a heavy rider and hard on brakes this wear seems about normal. You could try a harder compound.

I've never had any pad wear issues with mine.

You have had pads in for 4 months in Rear and then changed them and get 2 months out of em?

I also run Hayes HFX but havent been running that long, but the above doesnt seem that bad, or is it?

have a look at item 7,i've had same pads in since august,i do about 20-25miles once a week now but when light nights are back its 2-3 times a week.i'm 15stone..so im heavy.i ride a giant trance 4.are your callipers aligned correctly?.

Mate,

I was told that when i fitted sintered pads that they had to be bedded in to stop them wearing too quickly.
Just ride along slowly and pull the brakes hard, do this about ten times.
I helped mine.

Keep an eye on ebay - I recently picked up 4 sets of hayes pads for £12. - Enough to see me through the summer and most of next winter. even with high wear.......
