i got about £300 there the fork are old suntours which have cause no end of problems and i ride in the new forest and the south downs at min but going to do some in Purbeck hills and they need v brake mounts

You're gonna be limited on choice by needing v-brake mounts I think. Others on here might know of something good.
For 300quid you can get Rebas and a front hydro disc brake!

If you can't change from v mounts then try to find some secondhand RS Toras (302 I think) they had disc and V mounts. Be better than the suntours but not by much and you'd be able to put spare money to other upgrades.
V bosses have been ditched on all but the budget forks now unfortunately. The new entry level RockShox XC series forks (looks like they replaced the Sora) have V mounts, and I've seen 2012 Recons with them too. Marzocchi 44s also have them but I don't know if there's still quality issues with 'zocchis or if they've sorted it now.
To change to discs you would need to budget for around £120 or so for the brake, disc and wheel (based on Shimano Deore spec).
