Multiple pinch flats!
      #4595 - 20/07/2008 19:59

Was at Glentree today. Amazingly my son suffered 8 pinch flats with a new tyre (Panaracer Fire XC) and innertube. The innertube was fairly cheap "nutrack" so I switched it for a "continental" and then no more pinchflats.

Do you think it could just have been a defective innertube or should I avoid cheap tubes in future??

Cheers,
Phillip

Hi Phil,

Bin your tubes and go tubeless, no really it's the future.

I've been tubeless for two years and have forgotten how to fix a puncture also since my mate Typhoo (a thousand perforations on every ride) went tubeless 2 months ago he hasn't had a flat!

Only problem is I've got to come up with a new nickname for him now!

Do it you won't regret it!

Go tubeless dude, I got NBX Lite on The back and just awaiting my Maxxis Ignitor for the front. Not only will you suffer less punctures but you'll roll faster for longer...less rolling resistance etc.

Seriously, i would never consider goin back to inner tubes.

Peace to all

I know we haven't told you what you want to hear so can I ask what pressure you were running the tyre at when it got pinched?

Not sure of the pressure as inflated with the mini pump. However tyre was pretty solid each time we set off. In fact progressivley so to avoid pinch flats!

I am tubeless on my bike so know it is the way to go. However my son's bike does not have compatatble rims for tubeless and so I am loathe to do such an upgrade when he really needs a new bike!

Thanks for the responses anyway.

Sounds like a faulty valve allowing the pressure to drop and making the tube prone to pinch flats? You get what you pay for (mostly!)
