      #4453 - 18/07/2008 11:11

Hi all,
I need a new front wheel after folding my old wheel,
i have been through 2 wheels in the last year yep both my fault
I have had mavic 317 and 717 and Im after something a bit more solid as the 717 folded so easily

The wheel will need to be built as I would not have a clue

Has any one got any suggestions price range £50 - £100

All your help is appreciated

Maybe try DT Swiss rims?

You can get a DT Swiss 4.2d rim on a Hope proII hub for around £85 from Wiggle. Pretty amazing price, considering the hub alone costs about £50. The whole wheel comes in at 848g.

Or you can go a bit tougher and get the DT Swiss 5.1d rim on a proII for the same price. It's a bit tougher, for all mountain use, but is heavier at 904g.

I guess it depends on the kind of riding you do and the rig you already have? The 5.1 option can take wider tyres, so think about the tyres you're already running and whether they'd be compatible.

Both wheels are really tough, I've just been riding with the 5.1s in the Alps on a mini-dh bike and they were well up to the job. I've also ridden plenty of bikes with 4.2s in the UK and never yet bent one (dinged yes, bent, no).
