Its a weight thing.... or is it.....
      #4279 - 15/07/2008 16:38

First of all.... Hi All... new member here....Just fitted new forks, which i know are about one & a half pounds heavier than my old ones, also iv fitted a pair of MAXXIS swamp things, the problem is the bike feels alot heavier on the move, will the combination be about 50/50 or could the change be put more down to one or the other.....

Welcome mate. Thought that I'd get in here before you get swamped with newbie questions. I just know that someone will ask you abut juicy fruit!!!

The extra 1.5 pounds on the forks will make the bike feel heavier, but heavier tyres (if there is a noticable difference in weight) will make a real difference.
The problem is, I believe, that tyres/wheels also have to be pushed round (I don't know technical speak). So not only are you lugging the extra weight of the tyres but you are also having to rotate the weight, making the bike feel heavier/more sluggish.

I would put it down to a 50/50 split. Looking on the positive side...when you do go back to lighter tyres then you will fly!

juicy Fruit ?????????????........

After a little research, the swamp things are off up to the room in the sky (loft).......... the pair of them nearly three times heavier than the pair which came off..

Just ask the question...you know you want to...

Or is the answer that gives you the buzz??

I do have a bit of a problem with it...far too juicy.. and that makes me chew it too fast. Sometimes it gets out of centrol and I have to put a paperbag over my head. (saw it in a film once, I think!

Sir_Q...

90 wants you to ask him...you know he does...

Heck! We all want you to ask the question.

Just the once, what harm can it do...You can control it you know, as long as you dont ask it every day

People say that it leads on to other questions, but that's just rumour to scare you into not asking it...

No no I say!!

I've moved on, sure you start out with the odd small enquiry, the statement with your voice raising a little at the end of the sentence but soon enough it leads to other, bigger, things!

A probe followed by a bit of pumping for an answer regarding chewing gum preferences....

Then you start to thinking about the next step, the interviewing, the grilling and bang your into fully blown interrogations and you have to know, you can't leave it alone you just need the information, you lie awake at night wondering, your mind in turmoil and then you can't help yourself oh my God!!!

Do YOU like Juicy Fruit?????

hi TF90, 1.5lbs is a fair bit to add onto the steed if you are trying to keep the rig light as possible.
the heavier tyres though will cause the bike to feel heavier as the lighter the wheels are the faster the bike will accelerate so the heavier the wheels the slower and heavier on the move the bike will feel.
what did the bike feel like after you ditched the maxxis's?

Why not try sticking them on the swap shop post, you never know...

Gotta say I'm taken my the swampies myself but all that weight... Ouch, with my knees, has no one considered the consequences?
