Stanage Showdown - Please Help
      #4161 - 08/07/2008 13:38

Hi All,
Not sure if anyone can help me, I have just got back into mountain biking after three years out, there was a route I use to do which was out of MBR, The thing is as it was a while ago and it dosent seem to be in the online database (probably before they added that facility) I think I can remember the route but it would be nice to take the guide just incase, can anyone help out?

The route is in the Peaks and was called the stanage showdown think it was around 22km but I could be wrong on that bit.

Hi Andrew, do you like Juicy Fruit?

I've done a ride in, around and on Stanage Edge quite a few times.

Starting at a carpark just up from Hathersage, head up the road to Lady Cannings plantation, throw a right down the bridleway down onto the A625, climb back up the big hill and back on to the bridleway network, go throw binginglow and on to Redmires reservoirs and then climb up onto the edge hit the lookout point then turn left to go down steep bridlepath with the big pavers, pop out onto road then climb back to carpark on minor roads.

Sound familiar?

Hi Sir Q,
Sounds like the one, think your starting at a different point to me, when i did it it started at the car park at the bottom of stanage from the CP went up a technical ascent onto the top of strange then ......

In an ideal world if someone had the original route card and could scan it, that would be brilliant.

Hi mate, think that route you are talking about is in a book called Dark peak mountain biking. There are two stanage edge rides in there one 14km and one 22km as far as i can remember?

Hi Andrew,

Its a vague reference to 'one flew over the cuckoos nest' and welcoming you to the asylum.

Do you have memory map as I could send you it over as an overlay as I don't think the scan will be detailed enough for you. Probably get a copywright rollocking as well but as it's a photocopy I've been given a while ago I couldn't tell you what book it's out of so don't know who I'm upsetting. Any probs and I expect moderator can sort it out and remove the link.
