Hey People
Am currently in debate about whether to buy a Kona Blast or the GT Avalanche. Reading the MBR review from a few months ago am pushing towards the Blast. Has anyone got any experience of either these bikes?

Hey Mooresy,
It's only a matter of time before the Gorehound sniffs out your post....
I've experienced the Avalanche myself and found it quite a long stretched out kinda ride, I prefer a more upright position, I know you can change the stem but I reckon the Kona will be more sorted straight out the box.
Usual advice though, try em both then give the specialized rockhopper a try as well.

Just got an Avalanche Disc 3 2008 (the base package in other words). Very happy with it. Feels solid, secure on the gravels/grass/mud across the fields home from work. Got it because I had a broken GT and I like the frame geometry. I just wish the gearing was better - I had 48/38/28 chainrings with 12-26 sprockets. This has the now standard 44/32/22 chainrings. I do get the impression from riding the bike that this is one to upgrade components over time.

Have fun with the new steed Stevewiz, don't worry about the components just get out and ride! then as you say when they break, replace them then!
Above all have fun!
