bike advice please.
      #3773 - 29/06/2008 13:14

Hi everybody,
I'm totally new to this game and looking for a new bike.
The question I have is what does anybody think to the carrera kraken? the 2008 model has hydralic brakes etc for about £350.
Is this a good deal or can anyone point me in the right direction? also looked at the likes of Kona blast, gt avalanche 1.0 but these would be 2nd hand .
Thanks.

KONA.
Nuff said!!!!!!
But seriously the blast is a good bike same frame as the caldera (i think) so is easily upgradeable.
whatever you go for make sure it has a good strong frame as
you can replace all of the "bolt on" bits

great advice from gorehound.
try and get a bike that boasts a good frame and maybe forks , everything else can be upgraded at later dates if and when you want to.

dont be affraid to go second hand, you will get a far better bike that way, it would be best if you can look at the bike and test ride it for size and comfort.

also look at older new models, 2006/07 will have mega mega deals on the them, you may get a £6/700 bike for the cash you have.

do your home work and search till your sick of the site of bikes, then buy.

Hi Steamy,

Just to make things a little difficult I'd say the GT Avalanche 1.0 is a superb bike, make sure its the disc version though.
I agree with Gorehound though that a good frame is what is most important as the other parts can be upgraded as and when you can afford it.
If you have a bike already which you can get by with for a few months it would be worth holding out to September/October when 2009 bikes start to be rolled out. Shops then discount this years stock and you'll get a brand new bike that would have cost £500 for around the £350 mark.
Good luck with it all.
