Can BB shift or are they really held in securely by the screwing in of the cups? My drive side looks different, slightly, from the non-drive side. Am I going mad? Don't answer that please!?

The numbers of spacers on the drive and non drive side will be different, otherwise they should not budge tbh. Have you tried tightening the both incase for some reason it has worked a little loose.
Don't forget that some of it will be hidden by your chain rings

All seems okay - I had a terrible noise last night and I automatically thought BB, but tbh it could be seat, chain, and even perhaps the really hot weather?!? Then I looked at the BB and thought maybe it looked odd. I might try and send you a snap...not sure how I do that though?!The cups are tight and there's no play apart from a pedal bearing :-( But the bushings have gone on my shock...that may account for the noise?!?! Thanks for your help matey

Well, I am learning more and more every day! A bit of detective work on that noise...checked all the bolts and noticed that the bolts holding shock to frame were very slightly loose. Bit of lube, re-tightened and hey presto no noise and no play, so hopefully the bushings have not gone. There's a lot to be said for checking bolts - all very dry too due to a long ride in v hot weather, so needed some lube I reckon...so thanks.
