BHF ride - Dark Peak.
      #35383 - 01/07/2009 14:06

Anyone seen the route they use? I know it will all be good around Ladybower, but any info would help me, before I tell my wife what I am intending to do...

e-mail them, they are a tad slow at replying but will give you the official info as soon as its available!

I e-mailed regarding the robin hood ride, before deciding I wanted a bigger challenge and opting for the london to brighton one!

I really think its a great idea that the BHF organise these events as not everyone is a runner!

London to Brighton off-road that they do, or the traditional road route where all the unfit people get off at Ditchling Beacon and block the road for those who can ride it? That does look interesting as well!

I emailed a few weeks ago, the routes are due to be released any time now.
They will happily send you a copy (it was a PDF last year).

The format has changed a bit, last year it was one ~40 mile route not too challenging terrain about 50% off road.... The climb to glossop on snake pass was murder, not to mention Mortimer road(a 1in 4 climb) 30 odd miles later.

By the sounds of it this year it is going to be much more fun terrain, more offroad and more fun. They are putting up 3 different grade of routes... Hoping I'll be taking on the big one. I think well do cut gate a d back, winston lee torr, the whole roman road from hope to the reservoir, mam torr and a bit more maybe... Should break me but I'm sure I'll have fun doing it... I can really only do 30k currently before I start to crash...

My better half has given me clearance - think the charity fund raising part may have helped.

I would love to go for the 'advanced' route. Have to improve skills before.

Nah.. you'll be OK to get round... If you can get down teh west portion of the roman road from hope to the south/west bank of ladybower you can get down anything in the hope area that i've come across...
Most of the tough stuff round there has a clearly worn out mini suingle track next to it where peopl who desicde it's a bit much roll down...

Apparently the route will be available in a couple of weeks. I will be coming back to the more local people at the beginning of October for an update on trail conditions. Think I will need to put some tyres that are better in slippery wet conditions, but will wait and see.

I'll be doing it, it's my local patch and I should be getting a copy of the maps as soon as they are available... I'll be back here to perform a bit of threadmancy when I get my map and nearer to the ride time. Feel free to pm me for trail conditions, please bear in mind that a week is a long time for the trail conditions a to change round there, so I'll be guessing a little.

If sir Q is doing it then ask him when get gets back from his warm up lap that morning!!

Am I missing something here , again there is no map available and No under 18's WHY ??

Iam not knocking the BHF they do a great job but i just can't understand why these events seem to be run as they are some sort of secret club for those only in the know .

No map as yet (i'll chase agian today) as they may change it if the weather gets bad. One will be provided like in previous years. I got mine about august last year iirc. It was a lot more road though then.

NO under 18s, I supsect that as they can't supervise you all the time on your route round, you will need to be liable for your own safety. It's a hard ride and I can fully understand why. It's a bit harsh for the younger rider but what is the point in organising this is someone gets lots and as a result the charity ends up being sued and loosin a years fundraising money.

Got an e-mail this week saying map out 6 weeks before race date - which makes it late next week.

Dam I never even thought of that as a reason , its a sad society we live in today to think that some fool would sue a charity because they fell off thier bike or something . Could be the same reason for the route map not being easily available .

they will already have the planned route in mind.. theywill send some goons to ride it and report, if parts of it are unridable then they will tweak it to keep it abouthe same but avoiding the worse bits.

Really looking forward to this - I've only been round that area once and it was an amazing day that unfortunately ended walking back up winnets pass to the car - it nearly broke me! Fair play to the roadie who managed to stay on all the way up. Think i'm going for the 24mile due to lack of fitness and even this may involve medical assistance!

I can send you the route map if you haven't seen it... Go for the extreme route.

I'm going for a test run next weekend... Well I'm going to do as much of it as I can. You are more than welcome to tag along.

Really looking forward to this!! Extreme route. Just have to work out the logistics of getting there the night before and where to stay. Was thinking of the Youth Hostel for £11.95 for the night. Not sure if family want to come and wait for me though...
