Hi all
Posted this in routes and events as wasn't sure which was more applicable.
I will be doing the Mary Towneley Loop on the Lancs and Yorks borders in September this year for the charity my wife works for:
http://www.nmcentre.com/
http://www.nationaltrail.co.uk/penninebridleway/downloads.asp?PageId=37
I will be looking at doing the whole route (75km) in one day and would appreciate any tips from those who have done it or parts of it.
Starting with: clockwise or anticlockwise???
Any help would be appreciated as it's for a really good cause.
Thanks,
James

Hi Geek
First tip, take a spare pair of lungs with you. 47 mls in total, approx. 30 mls or so off road and the rest is short road sections to link up. There is an organised event every year in September done by the local mountain rescue team and sets off from Rawtenstall and goes clockwise. If you have a look at a site www.iandonahoe.com, there is the full route map and some excellent pics of what to expect.
It is a mega route and one not to miss. The organisers give you 12 hrs to do it and the is a full pick up service if you get stuck. The year i did it, the fastest time was 4hrs 6 mins.
Great natural trails, really tough climbs in parts and scary descents as well. Good luck.
p.s. check out Rossendale harriers website as i think there is a link to the mountain rescue.

Thanks for the tips!
Been on the mountain rescue site and there is an organised event on Sunday 13.09.09
Coincidentally around when I was going to do it anyway.
This way, if I get mechanical probs, there'll be help on hand!
I'm going to register.
If anyone else fancies it here are the links:

Me & my mate are contemplating having another go. We are a bit fitter than the first time and a better bike as well.
Just when you think it's all over, you get the final 3 miles over Rooley moor!!!!!!!
