A mate at work asked me last week is it possible to set off a speed camera by going past it flat out on your bike? I asked why? he said that he thought he had been flashed1 Is it possible and could you et fined for it? Thank you

Speed cameras take pictures from behind. Did it get his registration number???

Given the right circumstances I can't see why it wouldn't be set off...
I've hit 45 MPH on my MTB before but there weren't any speed cameras around. I can say I wouldn't be turning round to look at the camera though.
45 in shorts and a T Shirt, has no one considered the consequences!! (Thats 76.8kph in new money)

it should go off, if the camera's designed to go off for motorbikes then theoretically a mountain bike should set it off if it's goin the right speed.......

Be mindfull that cyclists are subject to the law under Road Traffic legislation. You can't complain about other road users cutting you up or not giving you enough room when they pass if you're going to attempt to set off speed cameras. Ironically in this time of green revolution there is an anti-cycle lobby and this kind tomfoolery wont help matters.

i went past a speed camera at 36mph after this thread started and i have just recieved my fine and 3 penelty points. what was i thinking.

you can get done but not by a speed camera as we don't have number plates.
