Hi All
I am looking at getting a new set of wheels. I have a li mited budget of up to about £200 but would like to spend as little as possible. I have been looking and Mavic Crossrides seem to be my preferred wheel at the moment. Has anyone got a set or know if they are any good or have any suggestions?
Cheers All

cant comment on the wheels (am saving for some mavic xm817s on Hope IIs) which are excellent but a bit pricey.

Thanks DIS. Yes I go to Thetford some times but normaly try and find some good paths near where I live. I have a few Hope bits and fancied some red hubs to match but can't quite stretch to it.

Having reasonably recently managed to upgrade to pro II front and rear, I've gotta say that they would be worth the strech if you can hold off upgrading for a month or two while you save a little more. Or you could do what I did and buy one, then buy the second at a later date when I could afford it.

I'd agree with freemundo. If you can save up, do so. You wont regret it. A good wheelset is a great investment.
Have a look at these.

pro IIs on Mavic XC717 at 267quid
or

Hope IIs on DT Swiss XR 4.2 at 235!!
Both are good bargains for good quality wheels. I'm sure others on here would vouch for that and may even come up with a better deal. (Come on guys!!!)
If you really dont want to stretch that far...
you can get XT hubs and Mavic XC717 rims with DT spokes for 166quid from Merlin. Xt hubs are said to be great, easily serviced - and favoured by one of the most respected royal forum members!

He only likes them as he's reached that age where the noise that the rear hub makes is a ghastly racket!
Everyone know that hope hubs come with your own early warning system for pedestrians!

Is it that or the fact that the noise of the hubs and his knees together would get him fined for disturbing the peace!!

the crossrides are actually a really good wheelset so dont rule them out, as ever though if you cant stretch your budget a little more itll go a long way.

How noisy are the Hope hubs? My old Deore's are silent! I have decided to stretch that little bit and was going to get some.

Gangster with a Tommy gun when freewheeling!!
They are tuned to click out subliminal messages to hikers and the likes."Get out of the way... I'm coming round the corner like a bat out of hell, and have given you plenty of warning, so dont get mad when I appear out of nowhere!!!"

i cant stand the noise of the hopes to be honest, its a bit like marmite .... love/hate!
its that simple, my reason for hating it is, is sounds like something is knackered, now obvisouly it aint but if that noise was anywhere else on your bike (even wheels) it would drive you insane thinking something sounded knackered.....as it is people like it as they knows it not knackered...i dont get that, its not even a pleasant sound, each to there own though, suppose to be mint other than the noise

Went for a set of custom mades from Merlin in the end. Got DT 4.2 rims on Hope front, XT back. Got the XT to save some money and was also bothered by the noise thing with the Hope rear.
