Hi all, looking to get some new grips, and found the ODI Ruffian Lock-On Bonus Pack, and I really want to get them!
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=152
I was wondering how they work though - do handlebars vary in thickness? How can I be sure these will fit my bars, and how do I take off the old ones (they are not lock on). Couldn't say what handlebar I have, as it is just unbranded, cheap, but I could get the diameter of it tomorrow...?
Thanks very much

Bars are a all a standard diameter. They will fit, you then just tighten a couple of alane gey bolts to grip the bar.
Your others should just pull off with a bit of a twisty action.

not sure about this - I tried to change the cheapie grips on a Giant Rincon last year for DMR lock-on grips (in a very fetching purple). the old grips (which had started to twist) came off very easily when carefully cut with a stanley knife, and the DMR grips have little grub screws around the inner edge, which push against the the bar and hold it all in place.
However I have had a nightmare with the end caps, as they simply would not fit inside the inner diameter of the bar - it was too small to accept them. I have been using them without the end caps for over a year, but it is annoying and looks a bit [****], esp now i have a full suss bike and am thinking of selling on the giant

Personally, I prefer normal grips fitted with good old hairspray. Easy on and dries quickly. Firm fit, etc.

well, I wouldn't mind them either Oldfisher, only, I really want them in a luminous/bright green, and these are the only ones I could find!
Thanks for your help Fredmundo, that is just the answer I was looking for, and @ chewbacca (love the name btw), I think I have some barends in there already, cheap plastic ones, so even if these don't fit, then I already have some, and that isn't what is the most important for me.
This thread is solved now!! thanks very much all!

Just make sure the ends of the grips are actually on the ends of the bars and they should secure fine
I changed my standard grips for some ODI lock-ons (black though!!) and just had to move the controls in a tad to ensure the lock-ons secured correctly

These are the ones I am currently using.
Instead of a grub screw the grips have a band that tightens with a bolt around the bar. There are a couple of colours, but I could not make the image stick.

Better still with these end caps they fit over rather than inside the end also are an integral part of the grip replaceing the band and turned 180 degrees on the bar.

So 2 problems hopefully solved in one!

Chewy, like mtb says my end caps from my odi grips fit inside the clamp bit, not the bar itself. I'm not sure about the ones you have though.
You really want to put end caps on asap. I came off last year and landed on my bar end... If it wasn't for the caps then my cheast would have ended up like a putting green... They really are life saving!
