Gloves and Camelbak questions
      #34943 - 27/06/2009 13:32

hi all

it's been a while since I last posted, and now I really need some new gloves, and a camelbak. it's my birthday in two weeks, so this is a good time to buy them (others can give them to me).

I was in Evans the other day, and I tryed on a brilliant pair of gloves. I noted the name so I could get them cheaply online. They were called Fox Attack gloves. The problem is that CRC or Wiggle do not stock them, and I must have got the name wrong. Evans website has a pair of Fox gloves, but not the ones I tryed. Should I go back instore (it will cost me £10 to get to town), and buy them there, or get a new pair online. I fear if I immediatley buy online then I will get a wrong size, as I find that gloves for cycling have to really, really fit. Can anyone suggest a pair of gloves that will last a long time, are fairly cheap (under £30), and have quite good air flow?

As for the camelbak, I need lots of storage space, as I carry a jumper, tools, waterproofs, all that usual stuff, as well as the hydration bladder. I have been looking at the rogue, but can anyone suggest a Camelbak with maybe 10 litres storage and a 1.5/2 litre bladder?

EDIT: Mule looks immense... bit big though, what about the Chaos?

Thanks very much

I've got the Chaos, I wish I'd bought the Mule.

Got a bit confused in Wheelbase and got the wrong one, it's OK and I don't dislike it, but the big zippery pocket whilst very tall isn't very deep and I end up with it overstuffed and sausage shaped most of the time which means the venting doesn't work on the back. You can't really get a decent jacket or a spare jumper inside it but there's lots of straps on the outside that you can use to carry lots more stuff liek pads and so on.
As for gloves I use the the Spesh BG Gel mitts, I've yet to wear the fingers out

I found the fox glvoes on Evans, they weren't on their gloves list, I had to search:

http://www.evanscycles.com/products/fox-clothing/attack-glove-ec018287?query=fox%20attack

They were very nice. Couldn't find the Spesh gloves on CRC... got a link?

I think I agree, the Mule looks more substantial, and only £10 more. Wiggle have it for just £59! Brilliant!!

The gloves look very cool indeed!

Are they thin enough for summer riding?

Oh and £48.65 here and if you look at the bottom of the page they're doing 08's even cheaper!

Is that site alright? Never heard of/ordered from them before, and plus, I might have to pay for delivery. Oh, and they don't have it in Black... I need black!

I tryed them on, and they were thin on the top, on the fingers, with a grippy base and palm, so I can imagine them being cool(ish) in the summer, and quite warm in the winter, perhaps. Definitley worth buying I think, probably will go for them!

It's part of Harry Middleton Cycles with a retail shop so can't see anything to suspect http://www.thecyclepeople.com/shopdetails.asp?id=845

got my lad som 661 comp gloves yesterday from Merlin and paid £17.50. they were lime green and white, but he didn't care, just as well i paid

as for the camel back i do carry a lot of 5hit. I got a mule 4 years ago and found it too small and got a HAWG 3 years ago. lots of room yet it has strap that enable you to reduce it down if there is less stuff in it.

I would not personnaly go smaller than the HAWG.

But i think that makes me the odd man out
( Oi Gore shut it )

the mule isn't that bit trust me its a brilliant bit of kit but when the bladder is full you dont have much space to play with. so don't think its too big

that was my issue with the MULE, way too small when you have a full bladder in it

I decided to put the camelbak on hold, thought maybe I could get a smaller one, then strap it to the outside of a larger pack, like my berghaus one or something, or won't that work?

I do carry a bit of kit, and I may consider going away with the bike for a couple of days this summer, so I think this is good, because I can then get my 45 litre pack and strap it to that, so I have the capabilites for everything.

But, with regards to the birthday, I still really want to get something, so, what is an essential bit of kit that I am just missing... lycra shorts?? worth getting as a pair for underneath?
