singlespeed conversion kit
      #34860 - 26/06/2009 15:01

Anyone used on of these before?
http://www.sunsetmtb.co.uk/shop/index.php?product_id=380&category_id=40

Any good?

Can it be used on a 7spd block?

I have been thinking about converting my old Fisher as I have given up trying to source funds for a full sus, etc for now.

Sticking with my humble Commie hardtail and perhaps a ss steel retro Fisher.

It's better to use a kit with lots of small spacers, the DMR has two big ones.
Check out charlie the bikemonger for various kits for different sixed blocks, he's the man for single speed, lots of advice on the site too.

Shouldn't be a problem, as long as the chain runs straight. You'll have to use a single chainring on front too so should be fine to line up.
There's lots of small spacers on the interweb for purchase.
Just gone single speed myself, feels great. A GT peace ss, put bontrager cruizer fat street tyres and changed the chainring for some more top speed.
Gears are for sissys (or hills!)

I've just converted my GT Avalanche, used a Gusset 12/13t kit (and used the 13t) and a chain tensioner from the LBS, total price £20 (give or take).
Happy single speed days to come (except when it get gnarly and the Blur LT comes out to play )

In the stable:
GT Avalanche 1.0 - Soon to be a single speed
Santa Cruz Blur LT

Been meaning to report back that the dead is done. So along side the Commie hardtail is a rigid, retro singlespeed Fisher. Not completely standard as it has flite saddle, x lite seat bolt, club roost idb bars, odi attack grips, vanguard brake levers linked to deore low profile cantis. Sweet!
