Hi My son age 13 is very good at downhill mountainbiking and wants to enter into some competitions or get in a club. We live in Gloucestershire. I have scoured the internet and can't find anything which I understand! My son said something about someone doing a series in the summer holiday in Wales for juniors but I can't find anything. Can anyone please help a distressed mum please? Thanks Mandy

You could go through The British cycling website or see if there are any links from this site http://www.npsdh.com/-There aren't any down your way but you might find some helpful links-Hope that helps

Mandy, I know this isn't much help but I just thought I'd chip in and say that if when I was 13 my mum had gone to the trouble of hunting down and registering on a forum, for for a sport about which she openly admits knowing nothing about, to try to find on the off chance about a randomn competition mentioned then I'd have been well chuffed...
You've totally earned youself enough Mum points for year, even if you can't find out what this series is!!!

Mandy there is a user called prophet on here who recently entered a downhill race you could try sending him a private message to see how he registered etc. or try one of the moderators who work for the mag Andy waterman or Jamie D. Not much help sorry but the best i can offer.

Hey Mandy
Cheers Brij,
I haven't entered any official Races this year as I'm sure all are fully booked at the beginning of the year, you can ring some of them up and get put on the reserve list though!
What I have entered is what is called 'Timed Practice' (basically a timed race to see who is fastest but they don't say who won because it was a 'Timed Practice' and just post the times of each rider!) they hold them at my Local DH track, maybe they do something nearer to you?.
One of the best things you can do is get hold of Dirt Mountain bike magazine (quite hard to get hold of at local news agents but they sell it in WH Smiths, this months just came out actually) or log onto dirtmag.co.uk they have a section in the back called HOT DATES which shows all the up and coming races for the year and the corresponding website.
Alternatively you could definitely get your son a day at a DH track with an uplift service, just like at a proper Race and also get him a DH Trainer (also called a Moto Trainer) which is a timing device that fits around the handle bars. there is an uplift in Dorset called UK bike park check out www.ukbikepark.moonfruit.com
Also Hopton near Ludlow usually has an Uplift service on there DH track which you can do NON race uplift days (like at UK bike Park) but I don't think you will be able to enter any races as it is a midlands race and your postcode probably won't allow to race (also they to are full for the remaining 3 races this year) check out www.pearcecycles.co.uk for dates of the races if you wanted to take your son for a day out to watch the action.
and last but not least Gawton, Devon has an uplift service, check out www.woodlanduplift.co.uk
there is also 2 rounds left of what your son may be referring to, Caersws cup DH, 1 in July 11/12th and 1 in August 22/23rd check out wwwcaerswscup.co.uk
Hope this helps a little?
