I have seen an 08 handjob at a reasonable price and i was thinking of buying it to build up myself, the question is, at 5'8" would the 17.5" be ok? I rode an old (about 04) a few years ago in 17" with 100mm forks and it felt ok, but with the 08 having up to 130mm forks on i wondered if this was taking it a bit high. I was thinking of putting revelation forks on so i have the adjustment of long travel (fun) or lowering to 100mm for fast xc duties is this a good choice?

It all depends on what sort of riding you're doing really. I was actually looking towards buying a stiffee frame to build a few weeks back, but have now decided to go full suss route. Anyway, I'm 5'7" and I came to the conclusion that the 17.5" would be great for all day rides, but the 15.5" would be better for chucking around and having fun. If I had've bought one I would have gone for the 15.5".
I know the handjob is more of a xc bike than the stiffee. If you would prefer all day comfort over the ease of throwing it through singletrack then I think a 17.5" would be good. However, if you want something that will really fly through twisty singletrack I'd probably go smaller.

I'm 6'3 and had an 09 19.5in and it was bang on sizewise. I originally ran it with a slightly racy xc set-up but that didn't really feel right at all so I had a bit of a change around.
Ended up with Pikes 95-140mm travel, shorter stem etc and it was much much better. Wind the forks right down for the steep ups, leave it about 110 for general riding along and 140 for downhill lunacy. (Whats 10mm between friends?!)
They're a bike with a sloping top tube so if you go a bit big it'll be more obvious in the length than in standover height etc and this could be fixed a shorter stem. (Within reason obviously!)
As a "big hitting hardtail lite" or whatever it's called it was a very very nice bike to ride...
Er yeah, hope this helps!

i'm 6'3" and ride a 19.5" stiffe, it suits me down to the ground, i'd think that you may even wantto go a little smaller, but if you wamt t uild upa bike ot crank out miles on then that will probably an acceptable size for you.

So we might not have helped Col but at least we know a 19.5 is the right size for blokes who are 6'3!

i'm 5'7" with a 15.5 handjob,it depends on your body shape,if you have a long body go for the 17.5,bottom line is it's a handjob, and you will love it

I'm 5'11" and ride a 17.5" Handjob with 115mm Reba Races on there.
@ 5'8" I'd try and ride a new one in both 17.5" & 15.5" as my mate is the same height as you and he bought a bike I built up off me - a 16" framed Kraken - this has very similar frame dimensions and geo to the Handjob.
